Plumage DetailsAdults are mostly dull black or dark brownish-gray with a greenish sheen. During breeding season, they may develop small, curly crests on either side of the head. The bare skin on the face and throat pouch is a distinctive bright orange-yellow.

Description

This large, dark waterbird is commonly found in aquatic environments, where it dives to catch fish. It is often seen perching with its wings spread wide to dry its feathers, a characteristic behavior due to its less waterproof plumage.
