Plumage DetailsAdults in breeding plumage have a solid black cap, white cheeks and underparts, and grey upperparts including the back and upperwings. The bill is dark red, and legs are short and reddish. The tail is deeply forked with long white outer streamers. Non-breeding birds have a less distinct cap and a darker bill.
Vocalization / CallVocalizations include a harsh, grating "kree-arr" or "keer-ik" often given when agitated or defending nests. They also produce a rapid "kip-kip-kip" call.
