Plumage DetailsThe male features a bare, sky-blue crown with a distinctive black cross pattern. Its back is brilliant scarlet-red, contrasting with a black body, a bright yellow nape, and iridescent green throat. Two central tail feathers are modified into stiff, curled violet-blue spirals, and its feet are bright blue.
