Plumage DetailsFemales have dull brown upperparts, a rufous (orange-brown) eye-ring and lores, and pale greyish-white underparts. The tail is dull blue-grey. Non-breeding males resemble females but may retain some blue in the tail.
Vocalization / CallVocalizations include a rapid, high-pitched reel or trill, often likened to a 'sewing machine' sound. They also produce softer contact calls and alarm calls.

Description
The Superb Fairywren is a small, insectivorous passerine bird endemic to southeastern Australia. Females, like the one pictured, are predominantly dull brown with a distinctive rufous eye-ring and pale underparts, while breeding males display striking iridescent blue and black plumage.
