Description
A small, iridescent green hummingbird with a white belly. Adult males are distinguished by a brilliant ruby-red gorget (throat patch) and a forked tail. Females and juvenile males lack the red gorget, having a white throat that may be lightly streaked with dusky markings, and a slightly rounded tail with white tips on the outer feathers. They possess a long, slender, straight bill adapted for feeding on nectar.
