Plumage DetailsAdults have a bright red crown, a broad black mask extending from the lores through the eye to the ear-coverts, bordered above by a white supercilium and below by a white malar stripe. The upperparts are blackish-brown, heavily streaked and barred with yellowish-white. Underparts are whitish with dense black streaking, giving a banded appearance, and a yellowish vent.
Vocalization / CallIts call is typically a series of monotonous, repeated 'poop-poop-poop' notes, often given in a duet by a pair, or a trilling 'trrr-trrr-trrr'.
