Plumage DetailsMales have a brilliant crimson head, neck, and underparts, contrasted by a black crown and nape, and bare blue facial skin. Their upperparts are dark brown, densely covered with numerous white ocelli (eye-spots) edged in black. Females are duller, mostly brown with black mottling and white streaks.
Vocalization / CallThe male's call is a loud, mournful, two-note wail or hoot, often described as 'waa-ah... waa-ah', which can carry a long distance through the forest.
