Plumage DetailsThe male Purple-rumped Sunbird has an iridescent metallic green crown and upper mantle, a maroon back, and a bright yellow belly. The throat and upper breast are dark iridescent purplish-blue, bordered by a narrow chestnut band and yellow pectoral tufts. The rump is iridescent purple-blue, and the undertail coverts are white. Females are duller, olive-brown above and yellowish below.
