They have a prominent metallic green crest and a white patch on the lower back visible in flight. Females are duller, predominantly mottled brown with a white throat, a shorter crest, and pale streaking.

Description
The Himalayan Monal is a large, colorful pheasant known for the male's spectacular iridescent plumage. These shy, ground-dwelling birds forage for roots and insects in high-altitude forests and alpine meadows, often using their strong bills to dig. They are typically found singly or in pairs, becoming more gregarious in winter.
