Plumage DetailsIn breeding plumage, the Eared Grebe has a black head, neck, and back, with a distinctive fan of golden-orange plumes extending from behind its bright red eyes. Its flanks are a rich reddish-brown, contrasting with a white belly. Non-breeding plumage is duller, with a grayish-black cap and hindneck, white cheeks and throat, and dark back with white flanks.
